Happy (maybe, not-so-happy? the world is still going to 💩) New Year! Last year was a doozy for me but I keep coming back to how I accomplished so many things, like launching my first solo event series dyasphonic, securing some amazing cannabis partnerships, and traveling more. It's surely been hard for me to celebrate with the constant violence and incompetence our current administration is inflicting on people in this country, but nonetheless I hope you're finding ways to remain grounded and find joy however you can. Let's catch up! I'm bringing in the new year with exciting news: I'm now signed to Birth Haus! I've been deejaying publicly for five years now, managing my own bookings, marketing and admin. For the last few years, it's become challenging to manage it all on my own. To finally be in a place where I have support; where my manager and I can tag team strategizing and growing my career feels really good! I'll be talking more about this in my canna chats in my broadcast channel! In Dya's Doobie I'll be sharing exclusive videos I'm too afraid to post on the feed because Instagram will shut ish down. Tap in there to learn more about me deciding to take this next step. This season is all about more transparency. A fraught topic for me is how people perceive what being a working DJ is and the reality of being in this line of work. I've decided to get back to vlogging so you all can see what a typical work week looks like for me. It's definitely not all glamorous, but I'm having so much fun bringing you all along!
This Saturday I'll be warming up the dance floor for the first time at Dorothy Downstairs! You'll have me live and direct the whole entire night, so swing by for a fun time! I'm so proud of launching dyasphonic last year and I'm so so sorry for not sharing any updates on its pause! I was so in the thick of disappointment, I didn't share. Regardless, I made the best decision for myself and the event. While the party itself was fantastic, where parties happen is integral to having a successful event series—for you all and myself. It'll be returning, just at another location, soon. Since you're a subbie, you're already in the perfect place for updates on my coming events. For now, what I can say is reserve February 19 on your calendar for a night of alté and amapiano. More details to come! I hope you enjoyed this newsletter. Was this sent to you by a friend? Time flies huh? After a high-energy, supersonic party last month, dyaṣphönic.dance returns for another journey of sound this Saturday! If you've missed the first two, it's not too late to secure your spot at Dyaspara's sonic den! The DJs for our next party have unique energies that play deeply into sound AND story. I can't wait for you to hear and feel how these two artists' sets connect! Dyaspara is a cultural connector who lives to learn and reflect on the beauty, vastness, and...
Unless you've been living under a rock I'm sure you've seen an outpour of DJ sets on your TikTok, Instagram Reels feed and YouTube homepages at coffee shops, in living rooms, and every other place that is NOT a club. It, one, speaks to most people's frustrations with nightclubs + club culture: overpriced drinks, expensive sections, and everyone feeling a little bit too cool to move on the dancefloor. Secondly, I think, it's a #recessionindicator that forces event producers like myself to not...
When I first started DJing I had no idea how much joy it'd bring me and how helpful it'd be for me in expressing myself. The realest ish I ever heard was when Jay-Z rapped, "I can't see it coming down my eyes, so I gotta make the song cry,".. A WORD! But even more than that, the greatest gift of this creative career has been the community of women and femme sound selectas and event producers I've gained! It may shock you, but even in 2025, people are surprised to see me and other women DJs...
